New in V2.5

Interactive Trimming

The new Scissors icon on the Edit Vectors section of the Drawing Tab trims vectors to intersection points and automatically re-joins them where possible. The interactive scissor cursor changes to show when it’s possible to trim shapes.

DXF Export

Exported DXF files now maintain the layer structure making the files created in the Vectric software more useful and complete when imported into other CAD products. In previous versions all vector data was output onto a single layer.

DXF Import

Now checks for error and problems while importing a DXF file and if found prompts the user to run a diagnostic check which can fix many errors which previously prevented problem files loading.

T-Bone Filleting

When T-Bone Filleting the user can now choose which side of a corner to add the fillet. This enhancement allows flat-packed projects such as kitchen units to be designed and machined with hidden corner fillets.

Filleting

Clicking on a fillet arc removes it and recreates a corner with 2 lines.

Zoom Pan in 2D View

Now works in the same way as the 3D view and is now much easier for users without a middle button roller mouse. Simply hold the Shift & Ctrl + Right Mouse button to zoom / pan.

OpenType Fonts

OpenType Fonts installed on the PC can now be used in the same way as the standard TrueType fonts.

Window Layout

The interface layout can now be changed and remembered, preserving the Tab and dialog layout when the software is next run. The startup splash screen can also be switched off if required.

New DWG & DXF Import Interface

A totally new import interface has been developed that supports opening and importing native 2D AutoCAD DWG and DXF files up to and including release 2008.

This provides increased compatibility with other CAD packages and makes it easier to work with customer files.

“Bone” Fillet Option

2 New corner filleting options have been added that help ensure parts cut from sheet materials will slot together after cutting.

The new 'Dog-Bone' and 'T-Bone' fillets allow toolpaths to ‘notch’ the inside corners of slots and grooves, allowing mating parts to fit flush against the true base of the pocket. This technique allows the radius of the cutter to be removed from the bottom of slots.

These filleting tools are perfect for designing and machining furniture, cabinets and model aircraft components etc. where precision fit is needed.

Fit Curves to Vectors

A new vector curve fitting tool is available for,

  • Reducing the number of nodes on vectors to create smooth geometry within a user definable tolerance.
  • Converting bezier curves to arcs for machining
  • Converting arcs to bezier curves for easier manual editing
  • Converting bezier curves to polylines

2D Pocketing and Profile Toolpaths calculated from vectors that have been converted to arcs will include G2 / G3 circular arc moves. These toolpaths result in smoother and faster cutting on many CNC machines plus smaller toolpath file sizes.

Polylines converted to smooth Bezier curves are much easier to work with when designing 2D projects and modeling 3D components.
