Aluminium Deer

Post by Timvmax »

I could say I wanted to make a Deer, stylised, leaping over water.
I could say I spent weeks searching for the right look, that certain poise of the deer, the impression of a babbling brook.
I could be a Liar :D
I found a deer picture, cleaned up the vectors, profile cut it in Aluminium plate.
Looked for some Cherry but found Oak so I used that & played with the texture settings for all of 5 minutes.
Gave it a coat of Cherry tinted varnish & got lucky with the result
It'll get a red nose for Christmas and get a place in our porch display.

Unique, very nice and well done.
Computers-Yuk....I should junk it...It never does what it should do...only what I tell it.

Very simple, very elegant, love it.
How did you fasten the deer to the base?
Pic needs something to indicate scale.

Thanks :D
I fixed it to the base by drilling & tapping the bottom of the arc M3, then screwing from underneath
with countersunk screws.
"He" now sports a festive red nose
To give an Idea of scale, the boards in the next pics are 6"

Fine piece, very tasteful. New to this forum. What cad software did you use to design the deer?

All done in Aspire.
I'm not much of an artist so I found a picture of what I had in mind, brought it into Aspire & fitted vectors to it.
I use Autocad & Inventor but it's rare now that I do anything outside Aspire

I was wondering what had happened to the emblem
from my Chev Impala!
Great looking piece, thanks for sharing.

:D it's a cross between a Chevy Impala & a John Deere I've been told.
I guess there's not much that hasn't been used as some company's logo over the years.
