Free Project - Rose Carved Disc Vase

Post by StuartH »

The FREE Project of the Month for April 2012 is the Rose Carved Disc Vase, available to all Aspire 3.5 users.

http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/ ... -vase.html

The project includes a stemmed rose model as part of the design but this could be customized with an alternative
decorative motif. The finished piece measures approximately 8" x 6½" x 1¾".

We look forward to seeing your completed projects!

The Vectric Team :D

Thinking tomorrow was mother's day instead of next week, I thought I would do this Rose Carved Vase. On the profile cutout, using a brand-new bit, it broke right away. I checked the speed and plunge and everything seemed good, then I noticed the toolpath was set on Ramp. After un-checking the ramp box, everything went great. My question is, (other then breaking a bit), what is the advantage or disadvantage of the ramp on the profile cut? Gary

One of the reasons I use ramp is so the bit eases into the material.

Hi Gary,

I'm very sorry to hear you broke a bit...ouch! I "always" choose the Spiral Ramp for cutout profiles for the precise reason of preventing excessive stress on a bit (as mentioned, the Spiral Ramp selection gradually and progressively eases the bit into the material as the bit travels around the cutpath.)

By switching off the Spiral Ramp, that seems to me you would be much more likely to stress a bit, so it's a mystery why it's working "opposite" from the normal standard procedure. Rather puzzling. I honestly don't think the Spiral Ramp had anything to do with the bit breaking, but don't have many theories as what may have been the actual cause.

Hi Michael,

Wanted to thank you for the 'vase' project !!

A great product, and came in real handy, as a gift for the wife !!!

Mine is maple with a mahogany center. I did change the flower a bit,
as it was one I had a gray-scale picture of. After something at sculpting
I was happy with the results.

Thanks again for all you do !!!

Thank you, Paul. Your vase is gorgeous! This is an outstanding example of taking a project and personalizing/customizing it. I'll bet your wife LOVES it!
