Zonotopia at Burningman

Post by Rob Bell »

Hello All-

Here's a project I just completed for this years Burningman Festival. It's a large scale, climbable Zome pavilion.

I used VCarvePro extensively for the toolpath generation. It required six weeks of shop time to fabricate and I used about 80 sheets of plywood. The structure stands over 25' tall.

There's a blog about the project here.

I will post more about how I used VCarvePro to achieve this in the coming weeks.

enjoy,

Cool project! Those joint connectors are really beefy!

Are the 3 4x4's kinda like flying buttresses?

Thanks!

Yes the 4x4s were providing buttress support. The more decorative solution to the cantilevered section wasn't fabricated in time so we had to make due.

The structure was fully climbable and at times there were people all over it.
