making of 3d sign

Post by Gerry Perrault »

Hi all
winter time is a good season to try new things. I wanted to do real 3d signs so i took the challange. As a starter i would like to thank Aspire crew to have achieved such a great software, and proof of it follows.
I had an order for a sign for a butcher shop. The idea came from one sign Dan Sawatsky have done,i don't think Dan would disaprouved of taking idea from him, someone told me one day if you are to copy,do copy from the best.
So i search on Turbosquid and found a bull that suited my goal. I did not know if it would work, because the design was an .OBJ. Brought it to Aspire and was able to work my way and after was only a question of using the slice program.
And it did great
We will be installing the sign this coming friday. Pictures will follow after it is install. Meanwhile here are
some pictures on the process.
I am open to commentary.

That is superb! Can't wait to see the finished sign. You are raising the bar here for dimensional work.

I hope they appreciate the work that went into it (and pay you accordingly!)

I use Photoshop to reduce my photos, but there are other programs that can do that.
If you want , send it to me and I'll resize it and either resend to you or I could post it for you. Many people would love to see it.

MS Paint can do it easily and it's included in Windows. Open a photo with Paint, click on Resize, select Pixels instead of the default Percentage, and change the larger of the two pixel sizes to 1024. Keep the Maintain aspect ratio option check marked or it will distort the image by only scaling one direction. It will scale the image up or down to 1024 pixels. Then save the image, or save it to another name so that you don't overwrite the original image file.

I use Paint to crop screen captures also. Ctrl-Alt-PrntScrn will capture the active window, or Ctrl-Shift-PrntScrn will capture the whole desktop.

That is terrific .. well done! To top this you will have to go to animatronics ... Maybe the Granby Zoo should be on your client list!

<we lived in St. Elie / Kateville / Cookshire for 16 years ... you are in one of my favourite corners of the world>

For Rej
yes i have use a coating on my styrofoam,it is from DEmand product called
''Elasta-shield''. I put 3layers of that product, Since styrofoam is white i have tinted it with a colour like yellow ochre for the first layer and white on the second one.
Remember this sign is for interior,if this one been for exterior i would have use kind of plastic or urethane.
