Dave Hebson - Gravity Tray

Hi, I'm Dave. After spending 25 rewarding years in sales, I took a step back for health reasons and embarked on a new journey of creativity and innovation. In 2017/18, I bought a 3D printer and delved into the world of CAD, designing my own unique creations. This passion for design and craftsmanship led me to build a Workbee CNC from a kit and explore the realm of CAM.

A few years down the line, I upgraded to a custom CNC and expanded my arsenal of machines. Today, I proudly operate a compact yet efficient garage workshop where I bring my designs to life. Under the name "GoodWood," I enjoy making and selling my handcrafted creations. This new venture has kept me engaged, inspired, and excited about the endless possibilities of what I can create next.

Dave’s back with another free project, the Gravity Tray, a meticulously crafted dish carved in oak. This unique piece showcases an intricate design of grooves that mimic the gravitational pull around a planet or moon.

Dave created the sunken dish using the spin feature in Aspire, the grooves are then projected onto the 3D model using the powerful fluting toolpath.

The gravity tray is perfect as a catchall tray for daily essentials or elevated as an executive desk tray, where it combines functionality with aesthetic sophistication.
