Barley Twist Table

Welcome to the Labs sessions!

Here at Vectric we all love to make stuff, so we thought we would share our inspiration, designs and the CNC process with our community by sharing the projects we make.

Each project comes with its own video for you to watch that tells the story of what we’re making from start to finish. Including technical software footage, machining the parts in the Labs, finishing the projects and we’ll even throw a few tips in based on our experiences.

Each project comes with the file(s) for you to download, along with a PDF document that highlights some of the key important steps to help you get through your project.

Go ahead and try out one of the projects out for yourself and share what you have made on the Vectric Forum!

Happy Making!

This month’s project is a Barley Twist Table. This project is to demonstrate the rotary axis option in Vectric software, how to design and machine rotary axis artefact.

This table can be used as a plant stand, candle holder, Champagne bucket stand or as just an occasional table for the hallway. However, the layout and machining strategies used here would be similar when manufacturing newel posts, stair spindles, or traditional fancy barley twist table legs. It also demonstrates some innovative ways to get the most out of the V’Carve software to enable construct and machining of complex designs that would be difficult to make any other way.

The Barley Twist Table project uses 3 different methods of construction and machining from single side, double sided and rotary machining processes. The download incorporates 3 crv files, the base, the table top and the rotary central spindle and the techniques shown in the video may help construction and machining strategies of future rotary projects. The project has been machined out of Oak assembled and glued.

Which Vectric software do I need to be able to open the free project files?
