Welcome to the Labs sessions with Todd! We love to make and share projects with our community and enjoy nothing more than providing you with FREE monthly CNC projects that you can download and cut for yourself!
Each project comes with its own video for you to watch telling the story of what we’re making from start to finish. It includes technical software footage, machining each part in the Labs and finishing the project, and as an added bonus, we throw in a few tips based on our experience! We would love to see what you turned this project into so download the files from your V&CO account then share what you’ve made on the Vectric Forum.
With the emergence of AI comes some really exciting and interesting implications for Vectric software. What better way to demonstrate this than to create a full 3D model using Vectric’s new AI tool to make a wonderful fall project. In this months “In The Labs” project, Nav shows us how to use Vectric’s EasyCreate AI tool to make a full 3D model, then bring it into the software to create a mix of 3D, 2D and Sketch Carving toolpaths to bring this fall snack tray to life.
Nav will demonstrate how to create the full 3D model using a prompt in the AI tool, how to get the model ready for downloading and how to import the model into the software. In the software, he will walk you through how to create vectors around and on the model, which aids to speed up toolpathing by limiting cutting to specific segments of the model.
Nav makes use of layers to organise his component and vector data, shows you how to use offsets to your advantage to help get clean borders and in turn how to utilise 2D toolpaths on a 3D model to help efficiently machine this project. He will finally show you how you can use the Sketch Carving toolpath (available in Vcarve and Aspire V12 products) to take a full 3D model and turn it into a sketch carving giving a lovely rustic, artistic feel to this practical and visually pleasing fall project.
This project uses upcycled wood from an off cut of counter top wood, which aids in giving a wonderful transition between the individual segments of the wood. Finally, be sure to use food safe stains for any finishing on this project so you can serve up your fall treats in style and safety.
We love to see what you make, so try out one of the projects for yourself then share your creative inspiration on the Vectric Forum or tag us on our socials.
Happy Making!
