Dave Hebson - Ripple Tray〡Vectric

Hi, I'm Dave. After spending 25 rewarding years in sales, I took a step back for health reasons and embarked on a new journey of creativity and innovation. In 2017/18, I bought a 3D printer and delved into the world of CAD, designing my own unique creations. This passion for design and craftsmanship led me to build a Workbee CNC from a kit and explore the realm of CAM.

A few years down the line, I upgraded to a custom CNC and expanded my arsenal of machines. Today, I proudly operate a compact yet efficient garage workshop where I bring my designs to life. Under the name "GoodWood," I enjoy making and selling my handcrafted creations. This new venture has kept me engaged, inspired, and excited about the endless possibilities of what I can create next.

Dave created this bowl in Aspire as a way to explore more organic shapes using the spin (vector turning) tool. The ripple texture was generated from a hand-drawn undulating vector, with the amplitude gradually reduced before spinning to form a radial wave effect.

The entire model was machined using just two tools: a 6mm end mill for 3D roughing and a 6mm ball nose for the 3D finish. For the profile cut on the underside, Dave designed 3D tabs and aligned them precisely with the toolpath tabs to ensure a clean and secure cut.

This project is a great example of how Aspire’s 3D tools can transform simple sketches into sculptural, natural-feeling designs—without the need for a complex setup.
