Today’s project is courtesy of Michael Tyler, the maestro behind our regular Free Projects. The Vectrician Yo Yo! features a “steampunk” gear motif and can be stained or painted as desired to make a unique home made gift.
Here’s Michaels description of the project taken from the PDF:
“The samples were painted with Sculpt Nouveau metallic paints and patinas. The Yo-Yo pieces are assembled using a 0.3125 " (5/16 ") diameter dowel and common wood glue. Stacked pennies and nickels are used as spacers for the yo-yo gap when gluing the dowel. “
“The project file layout has a single yo-yo per board, but you can copy/paste as many yo-yo’s on larger material, if you wish. (The small board layout is handy way to use up those smaller odds-and-ends scraps laying around the shop!) You’ll need some Yo-Yo strings to complete the project. You can often find them in toy or hobby stores, as well as on the web. I ordered a bundle of 100 “4x2 Type 8 white cotton strings” from http://www.yoyoguy.com. The assembled Yo- Yo dimensions are about 2.625" dia. x 1.63 ” thick.”
Big thanks to Michael for creating this bonus-project for us.
