Back in 2013 I worked on a woodblock printing project – and I thought I’d revisit this as it’s such an easy way to create your own ink stamps – and with Christmas around the corner it’s a great way to personalise cards, gift wrap and tags.
Back in 2013 I worked on a woodblock printing project – and I thought I’d revisit this as it’s such an easy way to create your own ink stamps – and with Christmas around the corner it’s a great way to personalise cards, gift wrap and tags. The files to cut your own version of these stamps are compatible with VCarve Pro 7.5 and Aspire 4.5.
So I drew up some quick designs (three Christmas trees) and then using the trace bitmap option in the software I had some vectors made pretty quickly, with just a few minutes spent cleaning them up.
Using some MDF offcuts we ran the file on the CNC machine and cut the pattern using a 60⁰ 0.5” V-Bit at a flat depth of 0.125” in order to create a shallow cut. The rest of the material around the design was then pocketed and profiled with a 0.25” End Mill. This was very easy and quick to machine.
I thought about some Christmassy things that I could print such as tags, gift wrap & cards. So I took to my printing inks and was quickly stamping away.
I worked with black and green inks where I printed onto plain gift wrap, tags and cards. Some of them I added glitter to add a bit of Christmas glitz! Not only do these make neat personalised cards, tags etc.. but they could also make cool stamps for the kids! I also made everyone in the office Christmas cards which I got some nice compliments on but unfortunately I did not get a good photo of these.
