Dragon Dice Tray

Welcome to the Labs sessions! We love to make and share projects with our community and enjoy nothing more than providing you with FREE monthly CNC projects that you can download and cut for yourself!

Each project comes with its own video for you to watch telling the story of what we’re making from start to finish. It includes technical software footage, machining each part in the Labs and finishing the project, and as an added bonus, we throw in a few tips based on our experience! We would love to see what you turned this project into so download the files from your V&CO account then share what you’ve made on the Vectric Forum.

In this month’s “In The Labs” project, Nav shows us how to make a dragon dice tray using fantastic easy-to-use modelling and machining functionality in VCarve. Then try your hand adding some customization with Design & Make clipart to add a mythical air of legend and folklore to your project.

Nav will show you how he creates this single-sided dice rolling tray lid and storage box, adding phone and pen slots plus a display for his role-play miniatures, all using the drag, copy and flip tools to duplicate with accurate placement of shapes using the guides. He makes the frame for the dice storage using measurements from his own dice then using the weld tool he creates the four dice slots, adding finger slots along the edge then using trim and node editing tools to tidy up overlapping vector boundaries.

He then shows you how to save cutting time by organizing your work into color-coded layers to plan the best sequence for your machining cycles, cutting the item slots, bottom lid seal, rolling tray, cutout, lid finger slots and bottom finger slots in upcycled beechwood from the labs to create this mystical dragon dice tray. If you would like to add some additional customization, watch how Nav quickly imports a dragons crest model from Design & Make, adds a D20 dice bitmap and carefully re-cuts his lid using 3D and 2D machining to give his dice tray an extra mythical touch.

This FREE project comes with the file(s) for you to download from your V&CO account. For those of you yet to try our software packages, why not download our FREE trial software with these project files and give it a go!

We love to see what you make, so try out one of the projects for yourself then share your creative inspiration on the Vectric Forum or tag us on our socials.

Happy Making!
