Yo-yo and Spinning Top

Let’s bring back a little of that old-school Christmas magic, way back! Think back to the days when a simple yo-yo or spinning top could keep you entertained for hours on a rainy afternoon, or when your friends were busy and you had to make your own fun. And if you’re one of the “young” folks who never lived that experience… don’t worry. It’s never too late to enjoy the charm of simple toys!

In this video, Todd will walk you through making your very own yo-yo, and then take those same skills to create a spinning top and a launcher! He won’t be doing it alone, Dean from “Dean Makes” jumps in for the second half to lend a hand at the CNC.

Both projects use the moulding toolpath to carve 3D shapes in VCarve Desktop, once again proving that this technique isn’t just for mouldings, but for creating fun, nostalgic toys anyone with a young heart will love. And yes, the spinning top comes with a launcher to really get it going! You’ll also see how to use a custom jig for a bit of manual indexing while cutting the launcher.
