J Tech Photonics – Aztec Calendar

Jay Johnson holds a B.S. Degree from the UCSD in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Photonics, as well as 10 patents in areas of laser materials processing, pulse shaping, acousto optic devices, and embedded systems. Jay has held numerous positions in research and industry over his 19-year career. As the founder and President of J Tech Photonics, he has developed a line of laser upgrade products to combine the benefits of routing and laser cutting/engraving on existing CNC machines and 3D printers that are easy to install, use, and maintain. J Tech Photonics continues to lead this exciting new field of laser technology.

J Tech Photonics – Aztec Calendar

The hybrid Aztec calendar project is meant to show the ability to carve and laser on the same project. We chose the calendar due to its intricate nature to showcase the ability of the router and laser to work together. Our sample was produced on ¾” white pine to achieve a nice contrast with the laser, but you certainly can use different wood for the project. Just make sure to adjust the material properties in Vectric before starting.
