Textured Mantel Clock

Welcome to the Labs sessions with Todd! We love to make and share projects with our community and enjoy nothing more than providing you with FREE monthly CNC projects that you can download and cut for yourself!

Each project comes with its own video for you to watch telling the story of what we’re making from start to finish. It includes technical software footage, machining each part in the Labs and finishing the project, and as an added bonus, we throw in a few tips based on our experience! We would love to see what you turned this project into so download the files from your V&CO account then share what you’ve made on the Vectric Forum.

Discover the Power of Texture in Your Vectric Projects

We always enjoy connecting with our users—whether at tradeshows, user group meetings or online and these events often spark fresh ideas. At a recent show, our own Todd noticed something interesting: attendees were especially drawn to the textured samples we had on display. The most common questions we heard were, “Can I create textures like that with my Vectric software?” and “Can you show me how to do it?”

Those questions were the perfect inspiration for a new, free project tutorial.

In this project, Todd explores how to use the Vector Texture Tool to generate custom vector patterns, and then walks through applying a Texture Toolpath to bring them to life. By combining these two features—and experimenting with different cutting tools—you’ll unlock an incredible range of creative possibilities.

But that’s not all. Todd takes it a step further by using the Distortion Tool to bend the texture vectors into a circular shape. This powerful tool allows you to reshape vectors, manipulate 3D forms and create dynamic, customized text effects with ease. It’s a simple but effective way to personalize your work and add a unique flair to any project.

Even if you’re not planning to make a clock like the one in the example, this project is packed with valuable techniques that will expand your creative toolkit and get you thinking about texture in new ways.
