Dean Makes - Plywood Guitar MK2

Earlier this year, we caught up with one of our favourite UK CNC enthusiasts, Dean Makes! Dean is a weekend warrior in the world of digital fabrication, whether it’s 3D printing or CNC’ing guitars, his ultimate passion.

Dean’s back with an exciting re-worked version of the Plywood Guitar, fondly named MK2. This one is crafted from recycled materials that originally made the stages and sets for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK.

"I've kept the neck dimensions the same as Mk1 but omitted the two side carves. The body is now even easier to manufacture using 10mm dowel pins. The face plate and back are made from a 9mm thick piece of wood; in the file, the cut is set to 10mm as I used a fancy leatherette veneered ply. I've also used 3.2mm pop rivets with the pins removed as string retainers."

Dean has also included the STL files for the bridge and the nut. The bridge uses an M6 Bolt as the string contact point, and both files can be 3D printed.
